The Spirit comforts by giving us some ravishing apprehensions of God's love: 'the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost' (Rom. 5:5). God's love is a box of precious ointment, and it is only the Spirit who can break this box open, and fill us with its sweet perfume.
